The Ofuro Soaking Tubs have their origins in Japan, where bathing is viewed as more than just a routine activity but rather as a spiritual practice. Unlike traditional North American and European bathtubs, Ofuro bathtubs are designed to create a zen-like ambiance that offers a gratifying experience and a sense of peace and balance with the natural environment. These Japanese bathtubs are typically set in a garden or other tranquil setting, and provide a private space for relaxation that helps restore mental and spiritual well-being. They also stimulate circulation, which contributes to good health.

The design of an Ofuro Tub calls for a deeper soaking experience, requiring the bather to fully submerge their chin. In the traditional Japanese bathing ritual, the water is heated using non-electric Wood Fired Hot Tub Heaters, resulting in very hot water. Our Ofuro Hot Tubs are constructed with thick cedar wood, which provides superior heat retention compared to regular tubs. We use clear Western Red Cedar, which is closely related to the cypress wood traditionally used in Japan. This type of wood is naturally resistant to decay and bacteria, and has excellent insulation properties. In addition, the pleasant aroma of cedar adds to the overall experience. To ensure durability, we use an architectural stainless steel strap system that allows the tub to expand and contract without the risk of the wood splitting.
